Friend Codes

Animal Crossing Friend Codes are generated from an identifier unique to your character, your copy of the game and the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection ID of your Wii. So different players in the same town will have separate Friend Codes.

Using a different copy of the game, or loading the same copy in a different Wii, generates a new Friend Code.

To become Friends with someone in the game, you must both add each other's Friend Codes. Once the two of you have both gone online, you will be authenticated as Friends.

After this has occurred, a hollow heart will appear next to that person's name in your Animal Crossing Friend Roster. This is how you can tell if someone has added you. Once you have actually met up in the game, the heart will be filled in.

Once this heart is filled in you will also be able to send letters to the friend.

These measures are said by Nintendo to be conscious steps to preserve users' privacy. If a Wii game is sold, but not the system, there is no risk of the purchaser impersonating the seller.

Because of this, it is safe to share your Friend Code on Happy Town Academy, either by adding it to your profile, or by sharing it in the Forum.

If you no longer want to be friends with someone, you can remove them from your Friend Roster and they won't be able to visit you or send you letters anymore.
