Tom Nook's store is the source for lots of items in the game, and also where you can sell items for money, including turnips in the Stalk Market.

Timmy and Tommy also work at upstairs at Nookington's.

When you first move in to your town in AC, you have to work for Tom Nook and complete certain tasks before you are free to play on your own. It is like a tutorial on how to play the game. The tasks are:

1. Meet your neighbors and Tortimer
2. Change into the Work Uniform Nook gives you (this is the only time you can get a work uniform, but it isn't worth anything)
3. Plant flowers and trees
4. Deliver a furniture item to one of your neighbors
5. Write and mail a letter (it doesn't matter what you write)
6. Deliver a Carpet
7. Deliver a Watering Can to the recipient of the letter
8. Write an ad on the Bulletin Board (again, it doesn't matter what you write)

After you have completed the tasks, Tom Nook reduces your first mortgage to 18,400 bells, as you have worked some of your debt off.
